Merry is a new rising star when it comes to popular Villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In this Animal Crossing: New Horizons Merry Villager Guide, we’re going to cover everything there is to know about this cool cat.

If you have Merry on your island, she could net you around 15-20 million Bells on the Animal Crossing black market. She’s also worth a few thousand Nook Miles Tickets, if those interest you more.

Who is Merry?

Merry is a cat Villager who was first introduced to the series with Animal Forest e+. While she didn’t make it into Wild World’s roster, she did appear in City Folk, and New Leaf.

Her Japanese name means happiness in Japanese, and so her name is actually a synonym for the word ‘happy’. This is reflected in the permanent smile that she wears.

Birthday

Merry’s birthday is on June 29. You’d be best off heading over to her house on the day and spending it with her. She’ll give you cake, you’ll get to take part in a surprise party, and it’ll pay off in the benefits you see in your relationship with her.

Merry’s Personality

Merry is a peppy Villager, so she’s happy quite a lot of the time, which suits her down to the ground. She’s also extremely easy to get on with, at least for most people. She has a tendency to overreact to news in conversations, but it’s all part of her charm.

As with all pepper Villagers, Merry is fond of other Peppy personalities, and finds it easy to get on with them. She’ll also not easy be discouraged, so she generally does what she wants.

Like all peppy Villagers, Merry has a short attention span. That means that she forgets things pretty easily. If she gives you a task and you haven’t finished it, don’t expect her to remind you about it.

While Merry will get on with other peppy Villagers, sisterly, normal, lazy, and jock Villagers, she wont’ get on with cranky or snooty ones. She’ll probably tell you about how boring these Villagers are, because they’re just so different to her.

Merry’s House

I have to say that Merry’s house is probably one of the most normal you’ll find in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. She has some exceptionally nice furniture, a big stereo, plants, and a modern cooker. She even has a table set up for her and a guest, making it look like she’s always ready for you to pop over for dinner. Her wallpaper and flooring both look a little dated, but they definitely maintain the vibe of Merry being someone who is happy in herself, and doesn’t need the validation of anyone else in order to be content.

Facts About Merry

It’s always difficult to pinpoint the exact reason that a Villager is popular in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, a number of people have picked up that Merry has suddenly seen a spike in popularity around the time of writing. This appears to be the result of an Animal Crossing streamer requesting that their fans vote for the Villager in the Popularity List on Animal Crossing Portal.

This is the first example I’ve seen of a Villager being artificially boosted by players, and some people who may not even be players. In a way it’s interesting that some players may be making a lot of Bells or Nook Miles Tickets out of the situation. It’s also apparent that this is one way in which streamers can influence the Animal Crossing black market to their advantage.

Of course, it may just be that Merry is cute, and that’s all that players love about her.
