Animal Crossing: New Horizons has an elaborate Photo Mode that lets you take screenshots and tweak them in a variety of ways. All of this is made possible with the Nook Phone Camera app in the NookPhone that you get at the beginning of the game. In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about how Photo Mode works in AC: New Horizons, applying filters, adding emotions, using Photopia, and accessing your photos.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Photo Mode

To start using the Photo Mode, press ZL to bring your NookPhone up and open the Camera app. Taking a photo is very simple but there are some controls you should know about:

  • ZL: Changes available filters
  • L: Changes frames
  • Directional Buttons: Changes camera angles
  • X/Y: Zoom in/out
  • R: Look up
  • B: Cancel

Once you have everything ready, simply take the photo and it will automatically be saved.

Filters, Emotions, Photopia

While taking a photo, you will notice a few filters and emotions that can be added to your photos. There are some available from the get-go but the others require you to unlock them first. In AC: New Horizons, you have access to filters like Film, Fluffy, Antique, Monochrome, etc. Emotions include Greetings, Joyous, Realization, and others.

Photopia, on the other hand, can be considered a photo booth where you can invite other villagers, dress them up the way you like, make cool poses, and capture memories. But how do you access these memories?

Where to Find Photos

Once you have taken a photo, return to your “Home” screen and click on the blue “Album” icon. This is where you will find all your captured photos in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And before anyone asks, no, you cannot do this while in-game.
