Unlike Warband, Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord features a main storyline that you will need to complete if you want to create your own kingdom. The storyline begins after the tutorial with the annoying task of hunting down ten lords and asking them about an important battle that led to the downfall of the old empire. After doing that, you have to find the second and third pieces of the banner by talking to Istiana and Arzagos. The next step is to either destroy the banner, create a new kingdom, or support an existing one. Finally, after all of this running around and destroying two hideouts comes one of the final parts of the quest in Bannerlord, Stop Conspiracy.
Stop Conspiracy Quest
In this quest, you discover that someone is plotting against you. There is an invisible timer ticking and you need to find out who is conspiring against you before it runs out! The quest seems fairly simple, after all, you just have to find out who is plotting against you and raise an army to defeat them, but due to bugs and the game being in early access it seems near impossible. Lots of players are having trouble with the quest. Here are some things you can do while we wait for the developers to fix the bugs and flesh out this last part of the storyline.
Simply Put it Off
There are a ton of other things you can do in Bannerlord while we wait for the developers to iron out the bugs and finish the storyline. Play the game without the quest as your main objective and we promise you that you will have just as much fun. Just don’t let it progress to the point that of the conspiracy, you can still complete the banner and whatnot, just don’t start that next step!
The quest can mess up your playthrough since eventually it will start a war that you may not want to take part in and there is currently no way to stop it since the quest is incomplete. They recently released a patch that fixed a ‘rare’ bug in the Stop the Conspiracy quest, but it seems that players still have trouble completing the quest to its fullest which leads to our advice to just ignore the quest completely. The Stop Conspiracy quest in Bannerlord is just incomplete and it’s easier just to avoid it, or you can download a mod if you already have it activated.
Download a Mod to Extend the Deadline on the Quest
It almost seems like the modders and the devs are neck and neck on releasing content to improve the game. Thankfully the devoted modders from Warband have hopped on the Bannerlord train and there are already a ton of great mods out there for the game. One of those mods aims to fix the quest by increasing the deadline date.
The Extend the Conspiracy mod checks the quest deadline and if it is less than 5 days away, it extends it by a year. This should give you plenty of time to avoid that nasty war that the quest will eventually cause if you don’t complete it on time. The mod serves as a workaround until the developers can finally finish or fix the Stop the Conspiracy quest. It’s fairly simple to install, just follow these steps.
- Download and extract the .zip
- Copy the ExtendConspiracyTimer folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules (or wherever your game is installed)
- Launch Bannerlord and activate it under Singleplayer -> Mods
Now the quest should be extended once it hits that 5 day threshold. There is nothing else currently that you can do with the Stop Conspiracy quest in Bannerlord. As avid fans of the game, we will keep an eye out in the patch notes and update this with more information as the fixes roll out.
